Ice Cold - Kooma, Miyoki & My City Glory: Song & Music Video Review
Miyoki is a Spanish singer and songwriter, known for her out-of-this-world music, which she calls experimental “alien folk.” I came across Miyoki’s music sometime through stumbling across the awesome band known as Mad Routine (My City Glory & Veela) last year.
“Ice Cold” is a collaborative May 7th release with Kooma, My City Glory, and, of course, Miyoki, who we see across the music video. I have listened to some of Kooma’s work in the past, such as “Oasis,” with Veela, as well as My City Glory’s, aside from Mad Routine—together, their work on this is not cold at all, but fiery. And if you look at the end credits, there are shout-outs to multiple others. The videography, editing, etc., featuring Miyoki is really professional—I believe Veela did that too. I definitely love the upbeat nature of “Ice Cold.”
It is a song you could definitely choreograph a dance to or vibe to anywhere, especially if someone’s in love with you. I think a majority of Miyoki’s songs are quite catchy, both in terms of lyrics and beats. From the get-go, the first few seconds of “Ice Cold” contain an alluring repetitive deep electronic voice “hum” or “ahh ahh” to it, not sure what to call it, but we hear it in the first 10 seconds, 0:20 and a bit throughout, which I really love listening to over and over again.

Truly, one of my all-time favorite songs of hers is “Magnitude,” a collaboration with Mod3no. Check it out, and also one of her more current releases, such as “Run It (Reimagined).” To me, songs Miyoki worked on like “Magnitude,” “Reason,” “Ghost Howl - BUNNY REMIX,” “Avalanche,” and “Moonlight” made me feel much more emotion than “Ice Cold.” Of course, the songs have different tones; “Magnitude” is perhaps softer.
The song “Ice Cold” itself is cohesive and has great rhythm, with gorgeous videography flair, but I did not feel as moved by it as other songs of Miyoki’s, which is shown in my rating. Additionally, you may not enjoy this song if you’re not in the mood for love lately, or if someone broke your heart; it won’t be as appealing to you, of course, but my rating does not consider that. It’s a fun, solid song production, but when I close my eyes, without watching the video, the emotional depth and impact of the song, alone vocal-wise, was not 100% fully there for me. Excluding the video, 1:30 to 1:41 was my least favorite part of the song. Without a doubt, Miyoki’s voice is spectacular, and I am definitely a fan of a lot of the collaborations she’s worked on. If you sift through her music releases going back to 2019 to present, I’m sure you’ll find a fave or multiple, especially if you’re into electronic music like me.
Overall, I must say I do like the propelling energy invested into the message of the song, how much someone can love someone “like gold,” “love you so sweet, and so forth, and the aspect of “tripping like a candle.”
Memorable Lyrics:
“Keep cracking like a thunder
See we get up like a house on fire,
but you're running out the hunger for me"
RATING: 4 OUT OF 5
