I'm At War - Imi Flint: Song & Music Video Review

Imi Flint is originally from a Leigh-on-the Sea town. “SEAGULLS,” a song emphasizing homesickness was the first song I came across of Imi Flint on social media, what caught my eye was the fact that she did a traditional stop-motion animation for the music video stating “she rather take over 6000 pictures herself than use AI”—I’ll link below so you can watch that as well and you can see behind the scenes process clips on her social media feed. Personally, I love stop-motion animation and used to do it with my papercut Faber-Castell marker sketch art, it’s a lot of fun if you’ve never tried it with any medium.

However, the song that was catchiest for me out of her releases thus far this year was “I’m At War.” Some seek a knight in shining armor or may wish to be a knight in shining armor, but sometimes people as the song suggests “put on a coat of armor or protect themselves” or are conflicted over what they should do next and it can feel as if you’re pulled in multiple different directions over a decision. Some relationships do restart and some don’t, everyone has the choice to prioritize themselves as the song mentions “in this battle it's me that I choose” and ultimately love shouldn’t be a painful battle.

I can’t say I have extensive experience with this myself in terms of relationships or breakups, but have seen a lot of rather bizarre relationship battles first-hand again—a fighting washing machine cycle that repeatedly continues to hurt on and off is not at all healthy nor true love. When we love someone and when they love us back its important to respect their wishes and space boundaries—we should have those be in our corner akin to a boxing ring, stand by us, and fight for us rather than with us.

Imi Flint as of September 2026 presently has released about 11 singles and I would also recommend checking out “DRAWN2U.” Her music is predominantly alt-pop, R&B, electronic and at times includes moments of rap covering the dragon highs and lows of love, being away from home and pursuing goals. We hear a lot of sparky energy from her across her work and its awesome as I always say to see artists showcase their passion in production. It’s also fun to hear lyrics that have some end-rhymes and are inherently quite catchy in nature. She’s definitely an artist to watch and I’m looking forward to hearing her next upcoming releases.
