Berlin - Jane October: Song & Music Video Review
Vevna Forrow
Jane October of Minnesota released a fresh futuristic 360° revolution track, reminiscent of The Matrix franchise, called “Berlin.” It’s one you can’t help but love to dance to and admire its unique underground European night club vibe. The music video released right on New Year’s Day of 2026 itself is extremely cool, modern, and makes you feel like you’re transported into another dimension with her. Across it are several wicked cool nods to The Matrix, such as the “red pill,” or “blue pill” choice scene, and “follow the white rabbit” message. Jane takes a super creative human-driven approach to bring you into that world with the integration of several neoteric elements, so if you love everything about that film franchise, then this song is definitely for you!
The song's rhythm bounces with a perpetual, snake-like motion that makes it undoubtedly entrancing. I do really like the song, and while listening without watching the music video, what came to mind first was the 1997 Spawn album soundtrack, particularly the songs “A Plane Scraped Its Belly On A Sooty Yellow Moon” and “(Can’t You) Trip Like I Do.” I feel like in some parts of the song, it would be neat if there were a little bit more acceleration in it or an alternate pick up besides the bounce we hear repeated throughout. Other than that, I absolutely love this song and think it may be interesting if some of Jane October’s recent songs, like “Berlin” and more from 2025, were even remixed one day. I must say that I also love the song “Rush.” The single cover art/photography work across is also beautifully captured for “Berlin,” “Rush,” “Rule The World,” and “Malibu.”

As her music stands alone, it’s awesome—she has a distinct tone and “Berlin” is vastly different from her songs “Pieces” and “Bet On Me.” While “Pieces" is my fave music video from Morgan Chapman Media and Jane October, “Berlin” is superbly well-executed from end to end, and you could listen to this song during the day or all night and totally have a rad dance party with your friends.
Memorable Lyric: “I don’t want to wait no more.”
RATING: 4.1 OUT OF 5
