Nimble - KYLO: Song & Music Video Review

You may recall Toronto-based artist KYLO from our Q&A series and past older-styled legacy issue #5, that her releases predominantly had electronic and synth elements.

On August 14th, 2026, KYLO released the single “Nimble,” giving our ears an early taste of what’s to come on her upcoming album The Space in Between. The song’s music video itself predominantly features a campfire—when all relationships begin, one could say there is a blazing fire that ignites; however, some flames over time sadly flicker out or dissipate into turn in ash, or sometimes we find ourselves TLC tending to the fire alone, waiting for a “ghost” essentially and reflecting on everything that happened with the one we set our heart and soul on, nowhere to be found anymore. The weight of this confusing loss can be immense as we see her sitting with a drink alone, standing alone, sitting alone for most of the video.

The feeling of someone we had a number of fiery memories with just leaving us or walking away on us is beyond painful, and we often question if they still care or if they’ll ever return to us. You may love someone, but they may still choose to go. While its true some people return after time apart, some never do. Not all relationships survive immense hurdles, and if someone truly loves you’ll they’ll be beside you through the darkest of times rather than choose to suddenly disappear.

“Nimble” consists of a slower indie-folk pace, stripped down to very down-to-earth vocals, and in terms of the instruments—I love the sound of the seesawing violin and acoustic guitar. I believe there’s a banjo and a few other instruments woven together that we hear as well. Most are aware that I tend to listen to electronic-based music more, but I am a fan of many traditional and non-traditional or modern indie folk artists, and a few country artists as well. I particularly like artists such as Cosmo Sheldrake, Mt. Joy, Paris Paloma, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Jayli Wolf and Emily Magpie. Although guitar and piano were two instruments I didn’t grasp as a teen, I still grew up liking movie scenes where characters sit strumming a guitar by a fire and sing, so I dig the atmosphere that “Nimble” creates. I think it’s always exciting when artists take their music in new directions or push their work into new realms.

If you’re not into music with a more rustic folk approach, I’d still recommend giving it a listen, particularly if heartbreak has hit you lately; it may resonate with you more, and don’t forget to check out KYLO’s other past song releases. It’s always nice to see the evolution of an artist’s work unfold; one of my all-time favorite songs of KYLO’s, by the way, is “Your Eyes.”

I have a preference more so for fast-paced or charged folk-pop music and love songs that incorporate a violin. I was surprised when I listened to “Nimble,” in a good way, of course. My favorite part of the song is 2:06, where KYLO sings “Time was spent.” No doubt we invest a great deal of time and energy into relationships, time we’ll never be able to get back, of course. I have witnessed my fair share of tumbleweed-like and toxic relationships over time, especially in my fam, and a number of people go without a goodbye. Heartbreak is something nearly all of us sadly experience in life, and it’s impossible to extinguish those memories completely with someone who captured our heart. A lot of times, one may deeply wish to go back or miss the times they were held with such warmth envelope us—that feels irreplaceable. Love is meant to be a joyous journey, not a painful story that we regret, but we learn from every relationship, and ultimately, we should never go back to those who hurt us.

In terms of the video, beyond 1:57, I think it would’ve been nice to see a slow flashback dance in a living room or indoors, but I definitely love the cat cameo towards the end of the video as well. I look forward to hearing the next upcoming release, “Maybe,” as well as the full-length album in winter 2027.
