The Unguarded Heart by Eugene Anthony Garone

Had I foreseen the delicate threads,

woven into the tapestry of my life,

embracing my body with rainbow strands,

in an intricate, silken tapestry.

A hungry spider waits in its veil

to welcome the unguarded heart.

Falling deep into its shimmering mesh.

The gossamer web, like a gentle prison,

surrounds me with hope and anticipation.

I want to explore this newfound freedom,

finding joy in the tangle of my lover’s net.

But I dare not struggle or succumb,

or resisting temptation

conceding to the bonds of his intricate maze.

And so I will remain a captive,

waiting, waiting in silence—

until the cunning spider devours my soul.
